Where to find it: LogicHidden fields & variables

A variable holds a value your rules work out: a total, a band like Emerging, or a yes/no flag. Variables come in four kinds:

KindHoldsExample
NumberA number you can do maths withmonthly_cost, risk_points
TextA word or sentenceband = Emerging
Yes / NoTrue or falsequalified
Write-upA paragraph picked by another valueSee Write-ups

Create a variable

  1. Open Hidden fields & variables
    In the Logic tab.
    LogicHidden fields & variables
  2. Add one under Your variables
Give it a name and a kind. Use names your team will understand.

You can also create one on the spot while writing a rule: type a new name into any variable picker.

Change a variable with rules

In a branching rule, choose an action under Then:

ActionDoes

Apply functionRound, round down, round up, absolute value, square, square root.

The page also lists

  • Scores: your score dimensions. They're read-only here, so change points where you set them.
  • Values from the link: your hidden fields.
  • Questions: every answer is a value too. The ID on the right is its name in formulas and links.
